Kindergarten Registration
If you have a child who will be five years of age on or before September 15, 2025, the registration process is now open. Please come to the District Office located at 5740 NE 14th St, Des Moines, IA to register your student between 8am-4pm, Monday - Friday.
Kindergarten students must be residents of the Saydel Community School district or complete an application for open enrollment. If you have any registration questions, please contact our District Registrar at 515-264-0866 or send an email to registrar@saydel.net.
Initial Documents Required - Due by June 1, 2025

Proof of Residency in the parent or guardian's name is required. Bring one of the following items:

Electric bill or confirmation of services dated within the last 60 days.

Water bill or confirmation of services dated within the last 60 days.

Lease or notarized statement from the landlord within the last 6 months.

House purchase agreement.
-
Mortgage statement dated within the last 60 days.

Polk County Assessors - a copy of the web page verifying property ownership.

If you do not have proof of residency, call the district office at 515-264-0866 to discuss your situation.

Proof of child’s birth.

A doctor’s office copy of your child’s current immunization records.

Please note that Iowa law requires a parent to provide evidence of required immunizations upon enrollment. If your child is missing any of the required immunizations, your child may be enrolled provisionally for 60 calendar days if they have received at least one dose of each required vaccine. After 60 days, your child will be excluded from school until they receive the immunizations.

Online Registration - once items 1-4 above are received by the District Registrar, you will receive an email with the link to complete an online registration. To prepare for the online enrollment process, you will need to gather some information: student/parent demographic information, emergency contacts, and medical information. It will take about 20-30 minutes to complete.
Additional Documents Required Within the First 60 Days of School

Physical Exam: provide a copy of your child’s most recent physical using our form or the one used by your physician’s office.

Blood Lead Test: A Blood Lead Test is required by Iowa law prior to age 6 and before enrolling in an elementary school. Please request your physician provide you with a copy of the lab report. This test is often done routinely around age 1.

Dental Screening Certificate: A Dental Screening should be obtained between the ages of 3 and 6 and is required by Iowa law. Please have your dentist complete the dental screening certificate. The following are also permitted to complete the dental screening and certificate: MD/DO, PA, RDH, RN/ARNP.

Vision Screening: A vision screening is required. This can be completed at the pediatric office.

You can drop off the completed forms to the District Office between 8am - 4pm, Monday-Friday.

If your child has a known food allergy, please make certain to notify the school nurse. Special forms will need to be completed and signed by your child’s health care provider.

It is important to inform the school of any health concerns regarding your child that may affect school performance. Updating the medical information on the computer at yearly registration and contacting your child’s teacher or the school nurse throughout the year is vital to ensure we are doing everything we can to optimize your child’s learning potential. Just a few examples of health concerns are: Asthma, ADD/ADHD, Allergies (Including food allergies), Diabetes, Seizures, and Headaches.
