Principal's Message
Mr. Kevin Schulte
I am thankful for many things including a great staff, an outstanding community and most importantly, wonderful students. We have had a productive three months of school and are looking forward to the learning that lies in front of us.
This year, we are mobilizing for an effective roll-out of standards-referenced grading during the 2020-2021 school year. This is an adjustment that the district has been moving toward over the last several years.
The primary reason we are moving in this direction is that a standards-referenced system provides students, parents, and teachers a more accurate picture of what students know and can do. With this system, students and parents will receive feedback that is Fair, Accurate, Specific and Timely, all of which are essential for learning. This feedback will be based on 4-point learning proficiency targets that have already been developed.
As we move forward with this district-wide endeavor, students in grades 9-12 will continue to have progress reported as a letter grade at the end of a semester.
The high school staff has been working to identify the standards and measurement topics that will be used in the PowerSchool gradebook. Beginning in January, we will be focusing our professional development resources on standards-referenced grading and how it will impact everyday teaching and learning.
We are excited to continue with our standards-referenced grading journey and I welcome any questions, comments or concerns.
