Nutrition 2020-2021 Highlights

• Increased handwashing, before and after meals. 

• At the high school, lunch will be eaten in the cafeteria and South Gym Atrium. At the middle school, lunch will be eaten in the cafeteria, atrium area, and classroom.  At the elementary school, lunch will be eaten in the cafeteria. Reasonable social distance practices will be in place at the high school, middle school, and elementary school.

• Students will wear a face mask through the service line and then remove it while eating. 

• Staff will be wearing a face mask. 

• Grab n’ Go breakfast will be available to all onsite students. At the high school, breakfast will be eaten in the cafeteria. At the middle school and elementary school, breakfast will be eaten in the classroom. 

• Drive Through Meal Pick Up will be available for all students learning remotely.

What meals are served to students during in school days (Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays)?

A Grab n’ Go breakfast kit will be served with a combination of whole grain, fruits, and milk. A lunch meal will be served through the cafeteria service line with a combination of meat/meat alternative, whole grain, fruits, vegetables, and milk.

Will meals be served to students learning remotely?

Yes. Free meals will be provided to students (grades K-12) learning remotely. Breakfast and Lunch will be served as Grab n’ Go on days that students are learning remotely. Meals will be served in the parking lot or bus lane at each school including Cornell Elementary School, Woodside Middle School, and Saydel High School. Meals times are from 12:45-1:15 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays. On Mondays, we will provide breakfast and lunch meals for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. On Thursdays, we will provide breakfast and lunch meals for both Thursday and Friday. Please note that if you have 1 child, you can pick up meals at any location. If you have more than 1 child, you can pick up meals for all of your children at any location. Per USDA regulations, children do not need to be present.

How do I sign up for the drive through meal pick up service?

You can sign up using a Google Form created by the Director of Food and Nutrition Services. To access the Google Form, please contact Karen Overman at 515-264-0866 for assistance.

What meals are served to students in the drive through meal pick up?

Can I pick up meals for my child(ren)?

Yes, students enrolled at Saydel do not need to be present to receive meals as long as parents and caregivers can share the student’s first name and last name that they are requesting meals for.

If I have multiple students attending different Saydel schools, will I need to go to each school to pick up meals? 

No. Please note that if you have 1 child, you can pick up meals at any location. If you have more than 1 child, you can pick up meals for all of your children at any location.

Is the drive through meal pick up service safe?

Our ServSafe certified team members preparing and distributing meals follow all required safe food handling guidelines.

How should I store my meals?

Meals should be consumed upon receiving. If not consumed, leftovers should be refrigerated immediately. Please discard after 3 days.

February 11, 2021

On Monday, February 8, 2021, the Saydel School Board took action to return students back to school in onsite learning five days per week in a Full Occupancy model at Saydel Community School District (CSD).

Starting Monday, February 15, 2021, families can drive through and pick up FREE Grab n’ Go meals for students learning remotely at Saydel CSD (grades K-12). Our drive through will be open Mondays and Thursdays. On Mondays, we will provide breakfast and lunch meals for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. On Thursdays, we will provide breakfast and lunch meals for both Thursday and Friday. On Monday and Thursday, the drive through will be open from 12:45-1:15pm. The drive through will be located in the parking lot or bus lane at 3 District locations:

  • Cornell Elementary School | 5817 NE 3rd St, Des Moines
  • Woodside Middle School | 5810 NE 14th St, Des Moines
  • Saydel High School | 5601 NE 7th St, Des Moines

Please note that if you have 1 child, you can pick up meals at any location. If you have more than 1 child, you can pick up meals for all of your children at any location. Per USDA regulations, children do not need to be present.

Meals will be prepared in our school facilities by ServSafe Certified Food and Nutrition Services Staff. All existing approved procedures for meal prep, storage, service, and sanitation will be observed.

Nutritionally balanced meals will be provided to all children enrolled at Saydel CSD (grades K-12) regardless of race, color, sex, disability, age or national origin.

This program will be solely for the pick-up of meals, and meals will not be consumed onsite. We encourage families to continue to be proactive in reduction the risk of COVID-19 by not congregating at the school site once meals have been distributed, continue to wash your hands often, sneeze or cough into a tissue, and stay home if you are feeling ill.

El lunes 8 de febrero de 2021, la Junta Escolar de Saydel tomó medidas para pasar al aprendizaje en el sitio de cinco dias a la semana en un modelo de ocupación completa en el Distrito Escolar Comunitario de Saydel (CSD).

A partir del lunes 15 de febrero de 2021, las familias pueden conducir y recoger comidas GRATUITAS para todos los estudiantes virtuales en el Distrito Escolar Comunitario de Saydel (grados K-12). Este servicio estará abierto los lunes y jueves. Los lunes, proporcionaremos desayunos y almuerzos para el lunes, martes y miércoles. Los jueves, proporcionaremos desayuno y almuerzo para el jueves y viernes. Los lunes y jueves, el servicio estará abierto de 12:45-1:15pm. El lugar dónde se puede conducir su automóvil estará ubicado en el estacionamiento o carril de autobús en 3 ubicaciones del Distrito:

  • Escuela secundaria Woodside | 5810 NE 14th St, Des Moines
