Welcome

The Saydel Community School District has an excellent tradition of fostering positive relationships with students, parents and staff. Our daily focus is to meet the unique learning needs of each and every student. We are a district of approximately 1,300 students and provide a small school learning environment for our students. We keep our focus on four non-negotiable goals:

  1. Student Achievement
  2. Enhancing Culture, Image and Relationships
  3. Maximizing the Use of Resources
  4. Demonstrate Innovation

We are a TAP school and believe improving instruction and providing a viable and rigorous education for all students is paramount. TAP, The System for Teacher and Student Advancement is a rigorous professional development model that is implemented daily and weekly through class instruction and teacher leadership meetings. Our instructional model allows us to have two Master Teachers and five Mentor Teachers per building to support our career teachers. Saydel Community School District is an excellent 3A school district conveniently located in the north Des Moines Metro area.

Reading Rewards at Saydel High School

Saydel High School library brought the library into the hallway for a day! Students were able to check out a book and enter to win prizes from local restaurants and colleges! The response was overwhelming, and the students enjoyed checking out the newest books that were bought for the library. Keep on reading Saydel Eagles! 2018-2019 School Calendar Approved

The school board approved the school calendar for the 2018-2019 school year at the board meeting on 2/12/2018.

The calendar committee provided great input.

The main driver for the calendar the last 3 years has been the new law requiring the first day of school to be no earlier than August 23rd. Due to this requirement this puts the end of school after Memorial Day weekend.

The 2018-2019 calendar can be found here.

Kindness Lesson at Cornell

Kindness Lesson at Cornell

Students at Cornell Elementary School recently participated in a blanket project that was launched in relation to a lesson about kindness. The students tied and made blankets knowing they would be donated and given to people in need. All general education classrooms were responsible for teaching about kindness and tying their class blanket. Once blankets are complete they will be going to different agencies in need.
